Teenage Pregnancy

In my Sociology class we currently discussed the issues with teenage pregnancy in America. It seems like with every generation, teenage pregnancy has increased and is seemingly becoming more common. My friend was reading an argument that two freshman girls in high school were having via facebook comments and I was so appalled by what they were fighting about. These girls were fighting over why one of them was a slut going back and forth on a public wall calling each other slut and skanks. I hated reading all this and I hated especially when one of the girls said, "I'm not a slut I have only slept with one guy." This statement to me was outrageous!! This girl was about 14 or 15 years old! Still a little baby in my eyes and she was using words like slut to hurt someone and saying she has ALREADY slept with someone. Not only has she given up her virginity at an incredibly young age, she feels comfortable enough to share with everyone on facebook what she has done sexually. Sex within the teenage age is starting earlier every generation. Teenage pregnancy is out of control because teenagers are not having any consequences for their actions. shows like "16 and Pregnant" that is aired on MTV show tons of stories of girl who are pregnant and in high school. Most of the girls have help from their parents, meaning their parents raise their children while they go out and party in high school. This all makes me feel old because I feel like these are just children who are making these mistakes and they are getting worse and more frequent.

  1. Having early sex, meaning sex prior to marriage or before attaining the right age, has become a trend these days.

Teenagers are increasingly indulging in sexual activities out of curiosity and to have instant gratification.

Intake of alcohol and drugs has also increased among teenagers in modern society. Use of these substances in high amounts lead to intoxication and excites teens to make them wilfully engage in unprotected sexual activities.

Carelessness in using contraceptive devices, as is common in intoxicated people, or non-use of protective measures is a prime factor behind Teenage Pregnancy in developed nations.

In spite of increasing awareness about sexual diseases and protection during sexual activities, Teenage Pregnancy is on the rise.
